new wine 2011
so we had as a church group a glorious week away - the weather was ok most of the time and the showers were warm all the time :-)
the things God spoke to me about were:
1. the importance of small groups at St Pauls
if you are interested in being in a small group then we would encourage you to get along to the course we are running next term on the Bible - Know it Love it Live it. over the next...

pioneer
thinking a lot about what it means to be a pioneer. if you consider yourself to be a pioneer what brought you to that place? were you pushed or pulled there?

what a character
we looked at Matthew 7 this evening at the LAB. i like it in the Message, especially:
Being and Doing 13-14”Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total...

history in the making
Well it’s true today that when people stand With the fire of God, and the truth in hand We’ll see miracles, we’ll see angels sing We’ll see broken hearts making history Yes it’s true and I believe it We’re living for you
don’t know about you but I sang it enough over the years at concerts, worship services and very loudly in the car or my office. who...
brokenness
As a lot of you know I have been off work recently and have found things a bit of a struggle.
The Holy Spirit popped the words of a Delirious? song in my mind this morning…..
“We’ve been through fire we’ve been through rain We’ve been refined by the power of his name We’ve fallen deeper in love with you You’ve burned the truth on our lips Rise up church...

ditch the ABC for the real question
We need to take stock of how we are doing in the CHurch In Wales. But it is definitely time to move away from the ABC. A (attendance) B (buildings) C (Cash) and ask the real question: Are we beginning to resemble Jesus? Does our Christlikeness make a difference in the lives of one another and others with whom we have contact? Can we, as a group, be identified with the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5)...
Measuring
just re read recently some stuff about the church being filled not with volunteers but with dedicated servers. the idea that everyone is a minister. it worries me that the church only attaches worth to things that can be measured. perhaps the best things in life and in ministry can’t be measured. this little phrase - I think it belongs to McLaren - means a lot to me “The purpose of...

Missional
I am bored now by people asking me whether St Paul’s is growing. I am bored with myself for trying to impress people with stories of new people coming in.
so I want to be truly missional and to be part of a truly missional group of people by being focused on Kingdom growth rather than church growth.
“One might think that churches that are focused on growth in numbers have evangelism...
New Scorecards
just came across this text about measuring success and liked it. hope it resonates with you too.
“The church must move beyond measuring success by the traditional indicators of attendance, buildings and cash. Instead we must create new scorecards to measure ministry effectiveness. These new scorecards will include measurements that point to the church’s impact on community transformation...
I have really found it tough to keep going recently…..
Hebrews 10:19-25 (New Living Translation)
A Call to Persevere
19 And so, dear brothers and sisters,[a] we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death,[b] Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules...
sick of being ill
When you take medicine you are supposed to get better. It’s official- I am sick of being ill. This second lot of medicine ain’t working either. Numerous people have prayed for me. Nothing yet.
Some people have suggested that this time is very precious. It means I can get close to God without any distractions. Maybe but I do find the intense pain and the painkillers a bit of a...

Ada
Tomorrow is the funeral of Ada. If you’re a member of St Paul’s I hope you can be there. Ada gave us so much and we will miss her and her beautiful smile more than words can say. But we rejoice that Ada knew and loved Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. Our prayers are with Jean and her brother Ralph and all the family.
